Google has announced a big change for Android users. Till now, the biggest feature of Android has been that users could also install apps outside the Play Store on their phones. This is called Sideloading. But now this freedom is gradually decreasing. From next year, Google is going to implement a new rule on this.

What is the new change?

Google has announced that from now on, only those apps made by verified developers can be installed on any certified Android device. Till now, only the verification of developers who put apps on the Google Play Store was necessary, but now, developers making third-party apps will also have to be verified by Google. Google is going to bring a new Android Developer Console for this, where developers will have to register.

When will the new rule be implemented?

Google will start testing the new system from October 2025. From March 2026, all developers will get the new Android Developer Console. From September 2026, this rule will be implemented first in Brazil, Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand. By 2027, it is expected that this system will be implemented globally.

Why is Google making this change?

According to Google, there is a 50 times greater risk of malware from sideloaded apps. Many times, hackers and fraud app developers relaunch their app with a new name after it is banned. Verification will help Google identify real developers, and it will be easier to catch fake developers. Google claims that since the implementation of verification on the Play Store in 2023, cases of malware, fraud, and data theft have reduced.

What will be its effect on users?

Now you will be able to install only those third-party apps whose developers are Google-verified. If an app is from an unverified developer, it will not be able to install on a certified Android phone. This rule will not apply to custom ROMs or some devices from countries like China, in which Google services are not pre-installed.

The matter is related to the Epic Games case.
Recently, Google has suffered a major setback in the Epic Games and Google case. The court said that Google will also have to give space to third-party app stores on the Play Store. After this decision, Google has to bring this new rule into effect to have more control over app distribution
