According to Google, now when you play a video saved in Drive, a transcript will appear in the sidebar based on its caption. It will have text blocks with time stamps, which will show which content is being spoken when in the video. This will help users understand the video better and access the necessary information immediately.

Searching became easy

Under this new feature, a search bar has also been provided in the transcript sidebar, where users can type any keyword or phrase. After this, the relevant text will be highlighted in the transcript and users can reach the same section of the video by clicking directly on that part.

If a video does not already have a caption, users can upload the caption themselves or use the automatic caption feature of Google Drive.

When will the new feature be available?

Google has started rolling out this feature from 24 February 2025. It is expected that it will be available to all users by 26 March 2025. This feature will be available to Google Workspace customers, Google Workspace Individual subscribers, and all users with personal Google accounts.
