Call-based scams have increased in the recent past. You must have realized that with time, the techniques used by scammers have improved dangerously. Scammers are calling by posing as salesmen, innocent-looking telemarketers, and fake bank officials. In such a situation, it can be challenging for any person to identify the real and fake. Scammers always call at such a time when you are busy, such as the afternoon is the most suitable time for them. You will be surprised to know that out of all the calls you receive every day, three out of every five calls are spam calls.

Although many third-party apps provide the facility to block incoming calls and messages. But these depend on user data. Only when a large number of people report a number, do these apps declare a caller as suspicious. But Google is going to change this soon. The AI spam detection feature in Google's new phone app Google I/O 2024 will make it easier to identify spam calls. The upcoming feature will give you real-time updates during the call and if a spam caller is suspected, it will alert you almost immediately. Let's know how it works.

How will this feature work on Android phones

According to Google, the upcoming feature will use Gemini LLM's Gemini Nano for Android devices. It will generally identify any pattern associated with fraud and alert the user during the ongoing call. For example, this feature will immediately alert about scammers posing as bank officials and asking for sensitive information like OTP or PIN.

Google I/O will send a pop-up to alert the user. The pop-up will read something like this - 'Possible bank scam: Banks will never ask you to move your money'. This feature will have a notification sound that will inform the user when a message arrives. However, apart from this, it will also give the user the option to end the call.
