Google Maps will also alert about flyovers, road width, and EV charging stations in India.

Google has announced new features for Google Maps in India, which help make trips more efficient and sustainable by leveraging AI and local partnerships. A key addition is an AI-powered feature that helps four-wheelers avoid narrow roads by estimating road width using satellite imagery, Street View, and other data. It aims to improve the driving experience and enhance safety for bikers, pedestrians, and other commuters.
Google Maps will also alert users about narrow segments on their routes, allowing them to proceed cautiously or choose an alternate route. The feature is rolling out this week on Android devices in eight cities: Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Coimbatore, Indore, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, and Guwahati, with plans to expand to iOS and other cities soon.
Additionally, a new feature will highlight flyovers with recommended routes, helping drivers be prepared to use them. It will be available for both four-wheelers and two-wheelers on the Android app and Android Auto in 40 cities across India, with iOS and CarPlay support coming soon.
For electric vehicles (EVs), Google is integrating information about over 8,000 EV charging stations in India, collaborating with providers such as ElectricPe, Ather, Kazam, and Static.
In addition, Google Maps is improving the metro booking experience in Kochi and Chennai through partnerships with ONDC and Namma Yatri. Users can now report road accidents more easily with simplified options available across platforms, including Android, iOS, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay.
To enrich the user experience, Google has collaborated with NDTV Food and Magicpin to curate a list of top places to eat, drink, and visit across 10 major cities and tourist destinations. Google Maps now covers over 7 million kilometers of roads, 300 million buildings, and 35 million businesses across India, offering real-time traffic forecasts and immersive experiences like Street View and Live View walking navigation.
