To promote the possibilities of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in India, Google has partnered with IIT Bombay's BharatGen project. This collaboration aims to create local AI models for Indian languages, including speech recognition and text-to-speech tools.
Manish Gupta, India and Asia-Pacific Senior Director of Google Deep Mind, announced this at the Google I/O Connect India 2025 event held in Bengaluru.
Efforts for social change with AI
Gupta said that with the help of AI in India, real-world solutions are being created for millions of people. Efforts are being made to bring about major changes in the field of health, energy, and science by implementing Google's Deep Mind research locally.
Using tools like AlphaFold, more than 1.5 lakh scientists across the country are researching challenges like autoimmune diseases and cancer.
Free AI subscription for students
Google recently announced that students across India will get a free subscription to Google AI Pro plan for one year, so that they can use the tools and features of AI.
Make in India AI will be created with Gemma model.
Under the India AI Mission, Indian startups like Sarvam, Soket AI and Gnani are developing native AI models based on Google's Gemma model. Sarvam-Translate is one such example, which is capable of translating long Indian languages.
New opportunities for developers
Google has updated Maps with new data information of more than 250 million places and has launched a free training course for game developers in collaboration with Unity. Apart from this, Gen AI Exchange Hackathon will also be organized soon.
