Google Discover: Google is hell bent on destroying media, now showing the summary of articles in Discover as well..

Media houses have suffered the most with the arrival of Google's AI tool. Earlier, Google AI Overview ruined the traffic of digital media, and now Google is bent on ruining the media in its Discover as well. Google's personalized news and blog feed platform, Google Discover, is now coming out with a new AI-based feature. According to reports, this feature is showing AI-generated news summaries instead of traditional news headlines and website links, just like the AI Overviews feature works on Google Search.
What is changing in Google Discover?
According to a TechCrunch report, some users are now seeing a summary generated by AI instead of the main pictures and titles of the news in the Discover feed. Along with this, the name of any one publication is no longer prominently visible. Instead of the direct link to the article, logos of many news websites are being shown as sources. In some experiments, non-AI summaries are also being shown in bullet-point style. A Google spokesperson told TechCrunch that this is not a test, but a new feature that is currently available only in the US. This feature can be seen on both Android and iOS platforms.
News publishers' concerns increased.
This change comes at a time when news websites are already facing a decline in traffic due to AI chatbots and Google's AI products, such as AI Overviews and AI Mode. Global search traffic declined by 15% in June 2025. No-click traffic, that is, when the user gets the answer from AI instead of going directly to a link, increased from 56% in May 2024 to 69% in May 2025. During the same period, organic traffic fell from 2.3 billion to 1.7 billion in the first half of 2024.
