Troubles seem to be mounting for tech giant Google. The US Department of Justice (DOJ) is in a mood to take strict action against the company. The DOJ has filed a petition in the court demanding that Google be punished for its search monopoly and be forced to sell its web browser Google Chrome.

What is the DOJ's allegation?

According to the New York Times report, the DOJ has described Google as an "economic Goliath" in its new filing before federal judge Amil Mehta. The department says the company abused its dominance, depriving users of fair options. The DOJ argues that Google should sell the Chrome browser to bring more competition to the market.

Tightening the grip on AI investment too

The Justice Department has supported allowing Google to pay Apple for services not related to search. Although the DOJ is no longer preventing Google from investing in AI, it has laid down a new condition—Google will have to notify federal and state authorities before investing in AI.

Google also presented its side in the court.

Google has also filed a motion in its defense. The company has denied selling Chrome in this but has suggested that the court can impose some restrictions on Google's deals. Google says that phone manufacturers should not be required to pre-install the Google Search app or Chrome in exchange for giving a Google Play license.

This case will be heard in April. Now it remains to be seen whether the court's decision comes in favor of Google or its problems increase further.
