Google AI: Google's new miracle! The AI model that converts sign language into text has arrived..
Google has recently announced an advanced artificial intelligence model called SignGemma at its annual event Google I/O 2025, which is capable of converting sign language into text. This technology is specially designed for deaf and hearing-impaired persons, which will help them communicate with others.
According to Google, SignGemma is their most advanced sign language understanding model till date. The company is building it as an open model so that developers and researchers can participate in it and make it better. Gemma product manager Gus Martins said that this model is capable of understanding different types of sign language, but right now it performs best with American Sign Language (ASL) and English.
This model will be useful for Divyangjan.
He said, "SignGemma is designed for accurate and real-time translation. We hope that this technology will open up new possibilities for the deaf and dumb community and help them become self-reliant."
An official post by DeepMind on X (formerly Twitter) said, “We are excited to announce the launch of SignGemma. This technology is being developed inspired by the experiences, needs, and suggestions of deaf communities around the world.”
At present, this model is in the testing phase and the company plans to make it available to the general public by the end of 2025. During this time, Google has invited researchers, developers, and global deaf communities to test this technology and give feedback, so that it can be made more useful and effective.
Google launches new AI-based features.
This time accessibility was given special importance in Google I/O 2025. The company has launched many new AI-based features, which are a step towards making technology accessible to all. One of the major features is the integration of Gemini AI in TalkBack, which will give AI AI-generated description of the image on the screen and users will also be able to ask questions related to it.
Apart from this, Google has added a new feature to the Chrome browser, which will allow reading, searching, and interacting with text in scanned PDF files through OCR (optical character recognition). A new accessibility tool called 'Face Control' has also been added for students on Chromebook, which will allow them to control the device with facial movements. It is clear from these initiatives of Google that the company is not only making AI smart, but is also making it useful and inclusive for people of all classes.
