The government provides several schemes for financial assistance, employment assistance, and free medical treatment. Of these, Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana provides free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh in government and select private hospitals. Eligible citizens can avail of Ayushman cards under this scheme.

What is an e-shram card?

The Ministry of Labor and Employment launched the e-shram portal to create a national database for workers, including migrant and domestic workers. The portal allows registration for over 30 broad business sectors and about 400 occupations. Workers in the unorganized sector can apply for an e-Shram card.

Benefits of e-Shram card

Free treatment: Up to Rs 5 lakh.

Pension: Rs 3,000 per month after the age of 60.

Accident insurance: Coverage up to Rs 2 lakh.

Disability compensation: Rs 1 lakh in case of disability in an accident.

Monthly financial assistance: Rs 500 to Rs 1,000.

Housing assistance: Financial assistance to build the first house.

Welfare schemes: Access to various government welfare schemes.

Educational assistance: Financial assistance for the education of workers' children.

Maternity assistance: Assistance for the upbringing of children of pregnant women.

Eligibility criteria

Eligible: Domestic workers, drivers, salespeople in shops, rickshaws, and taxi drivers aged 16 to 59 years.

Ineligible: Income taxpayers, and members of EPFO, NPS, CPS, or ESIC.

Application Process

Applications can be submitted at Public Service Centers (LSK), Common Service Centers (CSC), and post offices. Online registration is also available.

Steps to Apply Online

Visit the official e-Shram portal www.eshram.gov.in:
Fill out the form with the required details.
Enter your Aadhaar number and linked mobile number.
Provide EPFO/ESIC member status and captcha code.
Enter the OTP received on the phone.
Complete the registration form and submit it.
