Apart from this, special attention will be paid to the cleaning of sheets and pillow covers. This decision has been taken keeping in mind the increasing complaints of passengers, who often say that the blankets are dirty and are not cleaned properly.

Let us tell you that recently Railway Minister Vaishnav had informed in the Lok Sabha that the blankets are washed at least once a month. After this, the Railways had to face criticism across the country. Passengers said that 30 passengers have used that blanket in a month, due to which questions started arising about hygiene.

Decision taken given passengers' complaints

Earlier also, passengers have complained many times that the bed rolls are not clean and sometimes they get used blankets and sheets, especially there are more complaints about blankets. Looking at this problem, the railway has taken this step.

The railway has also started work in this direction. The Railway Ministry has started work in the railway laundry in Guwahati to implement this decision. Due to this, it is expected that now the passengers will get better cleanliness and facilities and their journey will be even more comfortable.

For information, let us tell you that the facility bed roll is available in the AC class of Indian Railways, which consists of two sheets, a blanket, a pillow, and a small towel. No extra charge is taken for this facility, it is included in the ticket price itself, however, an extra charge is taken for bed roll in the Garib Rath train.

It takes only 45 minutes to clean a blanket.

A team from the news agency IANS on Thursday visited a railway laundry in Guwahati, where the work of washing blankets and sheets has been started. Guwahati Railway Senior Engineer Neepan Kalita told IANS that the process of cleaning blankets is very effective and fast. It takes only 45 minutes to clean a blanket. The blanket is first divided into four parts and then washed.

During the washing process, the blanket is washed at a temperature of 80 to 90 degrees, after which it is dried in the dryer. Sometimes the washing and drying process may take a little extra time, but overall the washing of the blanket is completed in 50 to 55 minutes.

Cleaning a bed roll costs about Rs 23.58

Guwahati Coaching Depot Manager Sudarshan Bhardwaj said that the sheets are cleaned daily. It takes about 45 to 60 minutes. The bedsheet is put in the machine, and then it is thoroughly cleaned through wash, dry, and steam iron. This entire process takes about 45 to 60 minutes. He said that washing a blanket (weighing 973 grams) costs about Rs 23.59, which includes GST. Similarly, it also costs about Rs 23.58 to completely clean a bed roll.

60 percent of the employees working in this railway laundry are women, who are playing their role under the women empowerment initiative supported by the Prime Minister. This step is also a positive step towards women's empowerment.
