X Premium Subscription: Elon Musk's social media platform X (formerly Twitter) in India has made a big cut in the prices of its premium subscription. Now the prices of X Premium have been reduced by up to 47%. This change applies to all three subscription plans: Basic, Premium, and Premium+. It is believed that this move will boost the reach and userbase of X in a big internet market like India.

This is the first major price change seen since the launch of Twitter Blue in India in February 2023. The special thing is that the price of Premium+ plan had increased twice last year, but now for the first time the prices of all tiers have been reduced.

New prices on web

Basic: Rs 170/month or Rs 1,700/year (earlier Rs 244/month or Rs 2,591/year)

Premium: Rs 427/month or Rs 4,272/year (earlier Rs 650/month or Rs 6,800/year)

Premium+: Rs 2,570/month or Rs 26,400/year (earlier Rs 3,470/month or Rs 34,340/year)

Subscription rates on mobile apps are still slightly higher as Google and Apple take their commissions.

Premium now Rs 470/month on mobile (earlier Rs 900/month)

Premium+ now Rs 3,000/month (earlier Rs 5,130)

Premium+ on iOS still remains Rs 5,000/month.

The Basic plan is priced at Rs 170/month across all platforms.

What will you get in each plan?

Basic: Limited features like option to edit posts, longer video uploads, priority in replies and post formatting.

Premium: Creator tools like X Pro, analytics, fewer ads, blue ticks and increased limits of Grok AI.

Premium+: Ad-free experience, maximum reply boost, ability to post long articles and 'Radar' tool showing live trends.

This price cut comes at a time when Musk's AI company xAI has launched its new model Grok 4. In March, xAI bought X in a $33 billion stock deal. Although Elon Musk is trying to increase revenue from subscriptions, only $16.5 million in in-app revenue has been generated from mobile apps by December 2024. Meanwhile, this month X CEO Linda Yaccarino resigned after her two-year tenure. The company is now working on a strategy to increase revenue from subscriptions by reducing its dependence on advertising.
