Good news for Agniveers from two states; new announcements regarding employment

The governments of Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra have taken significant decisions regarding Agniveers. Madhya Pradesh has approved a 20% reservation for former Agniveers in uniformed government jobs.

The first batch of Agniveers who joined the Army is nearing the completion of its four-year service tenure. Various states are making announcements regarding future employment opportunities for Agniveers upon the completion of their service. In this context, the governments of Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra have taken key decisions. Madhya Pradesh has approved a 20% reservation for former Agniveers in uniformed government jobs. Meanwhile, Maharashtra has decided to provide a 10% reservation for former Agniveers in several of the state’s uniformed services. There is also a provision to exempt eligible former Agniveers in Maharashtra from the written recruitment examination. Under the Central Government’s Agnipath scheme (2022 batch), the service tenure for Agniveers is four years. There is a provision to retain 25% of Agniveers in the armed forces, while 75% leave the service upon completion of their term.

The first batch is set to complete its service by January 2027.

The Madhya Pradesh Cabinet approved a 20% reservation for former Agniveers for the posts of Police Constable, Special Armed Force personnel, Jail Guard, Forest Guard, and Excise Constable. Agniveers will receive a 20% reservation in recruitment for General Duty Constable and Special Armed Force roles under the Home Department. Reservations of 10% for Home Guards and 5% for ex-servicemen will continue for these posts. Additionally, for the posts of Jail Guard and Forest Guard, a reservation of 20% will be provided for Agniveers, 15% for Home Guards, and 5% for ex-servicemen. Meanwhile, provisions have been made for 20% reservation for Agniveers, 10% for Home Guards, and 5% for ex-servicemen in the recruitment of Excise Constables.

Jobs in Maharashtra without a written exam

The Maharashtra Cabinet has approved a 10% reservation for former Agniveers in Group-C uniformed government jobs and semi-government services. This provision applies to former Agniveers who are natives of Maharashtra. According to the government, eligible former Agniveers will not be required to take a written examination again. Furthermore, the training received during their four-year military service will be recognized; consequently, they will be exempted from standard initial training, although specialized training required for specific posts may still apply. A four-year relaxation in the upper age limit will also be granted.

Opportunities across various departments, from Police to Fire Services

In Maharashtra, opportunities have been created for former Agniveers in roles such as Police Constable and Driver Constable, Jail Constable, Fireman and Rescuer, Home Guard, Constable in the State Intelligence Department, Sailor, Jawan and Jawan-cum-Driver in the State Excise Department, and Forest Guard. Priority will also be given to inducting Agniveers who have completed their service with the Indian Navy into the state’s Coastal Security Wing. An option to create additional posts for them, should the need arise, has also been kept open.
