Aadhaar Card Update: UIDAI has decided to make a specific Aadhaar-related service free for a few months, meaning millions of people will not have to pay any fee for this essential update.

UIDAI Update: Nowadays, the Aadhaar card has become a crucial form of identification for almost every important task. We require Aadhaar for everything from government schemes to banking and various other services. Consequently, any change or update related to Aadhaar directly impacts the general public.

Amidst this, there is welcome news for Aadhaar cardholders that will bring relief to millions. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has decided to offer a specific Aadhaar-related service for free over the coming months. Under this initiative, you will no longer need to spend money on this essential update.

What is the new change introduced by UIDAI?

According to UIDAI, the facility to update the email ID on an Aadhaar card has been made completely free for a limited period. This means you can now update your email ID on your Aadhaar card without incurring any charges. This facility will be available for six months starting July 1, and you can take advantage of it during this period.

What was the fee previously?

Until now, a fee had to be paid for any kind of update to the Aadhaar card. Previously, updating an email ID cost approximately ₹75 (including GST), but this service will now be available free of charge. Under the new rule, effective from July 1, this service will be provided at no cost, offering financial relief to the general public.

How can one avail of this facility?

This free service is available exclusively through the Aadhaar mobile app or UIDAI's official digital platforms. If an individual updates their email ID via the app, they will not be charged any fee.

However, if you choose to perform this task through other channels, the previous fee structure may still apply. Therefore, UIDAI advises people to use the app for updating their email IDs.
