Good news: EPFO has transferred interest to subscribers' accounts; here is how to check your PF balance..
EPFO: The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has transferred the interest amount to subscribers' EPF accounts. This pertains to the interest for the financial year 2025-26. The government had previously approved an interest rate of 8.25% on PF balances for the last financial year. Since then, private-sector employees had been waiting for the interest amount to be credited to their EPF accounts.
Subscribers receiving SMS alerts regarding interest credit
Many EPF subscribers have received SMS notifications confirming the credit of the interest amount. These messages state that the interest for FY26 has been transferred to their accounts. However, even after receiving the transfer alert, the revised balance might not reflect immediately in your EPF account. This is because the EPFO is currently updating the accounts of crores of subscribers; consequently, it may take some time for the credited amount to appear in your account.
₹1.44 lakh crore to be transferred across 34 crore EPF accounts
The EPFO is set to transfer approximately ₹1.44 lakh crore in annual interest across nearly 34 crore EPF accounts. This year, the interest transfer process was completed faster than in the previous year, thanks to the EPFO's new Centralized IT-Enabled System (CITES) platform, which has automated the transfer process.
How subscribers can check their revised EPF balance
EPF subscribers can check the revised balance (including interest) in their EPF accounts by logging into the EPFO's member passbook portal. A UAN (Universal Account Number) and password are required for this. After logging in, select the 'View Passbook' option to see the entries for the EPF balance and the interest amount.
It may take time for the interest transfer entry to appear in the EPF account.
There is no need to panic if the interest amount entry does not appear immediately in your EPF account, as the EPFO updates accounts in multiple phases. Therefore, it may take some time for the EPF accounts of all subscribers to be updated.
Subscribers can withdraw 75 percent of their EPF account balance.
Subscribers can also check their EPF balance via the UMANG app; however, the EPF balance feature on the app is currently non-functional due to maintenance. The EPFO has made all subscriber-related services available online. Additionally, withdrawal rules have been modified; under the EPF Scheme, subscribers can withdraw up to 75 percent of their EPF balance.
