UPS benefits: The Prime Minister Narendra Modi government of the country has given a big gift to the central employees. Keeping in mind the central employees, the Finance Ministry has announced that it will include the benefits available under the National Pension Scheme (NPS) in the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS). The Finance Ministry has also given information about this.

The ministry has said that employees choosing UPS will get all the tax benefits that are available under NPS. This also includes TDS and other tax benefits. It is believed that this decision of the government will put parity between the two schemes. Also, employees choosing UPS instead of NPS will get an equal opportunity. About 23 lakh government employees can opt for UPS.

What is UPS, and why is it important?

UPS is a pension scheme that is part of NPS. It was started on April 1, 2025. It has been created to provide financial security to central employees after retirement. In this, employees can better manage their pension savings and take advantage of tax benefits. Under this, the government contributes 18.5% of the employee's basic salary and dearness allowance, while the employee contributes only 10%.

What is the benefit to the employees?

If you come under the NPS scheme and choose UPS, you will get tax exemption, which will increase your savings. This scheme will help in planning retirement and reduce the financial burden. Apart from this, if you are a new employee, you will have the option of choosing UPS, which will give you a secure and beneficial pension in the future.

Why did the government take this step?
The central government wants to further strengthen the retirement security of its employees with this step. This scheme will not only provide financial stability, but will also help employees plan for the future.

Let us tell you that the government has recently extended the deadline for employees to choose options under UPS to 30 September, which was previously 30 June. Under this, eligible employees, including existing employees, retired employees, and partners of deceased retired employees had to choose the option of UPS.
