Gold prices stabilize ahead of Chhath and Diwali; gold shines again after a two-day slump
After a sharp decline over the past two days, gold prices are recovering today. Silver is also witnessing a strong recovery. Robust buying is taking place at these lower levels.
Today, September 23, 2026, the downward trend seen over the last two days finally came to a halt. The price of 24-carat gold has risen by ₹8,700 per 100 grams and ₹870 per 10 grams today. In contrast, the price had dropped by ₹25,100 per 100 grams and ₹2,510 per 10 grams over the previous two days.
Why did gold prices suddenly rise?
Following the massive drop of ₹25,100 in gold prices over the last two days, investors and local jewelers engaged in aggressive buying at lower levels. With the wedding season and several festivals approaching, the price drop offered a great investment opportunity. This led to a surge in spot demand at lower rates starting this morning, providing immediate support to domestic prices and causing them to jump.
China is also a factor
China is the world's largest consumer of gold, and demand from China's central bank (PBOC) and retail investors remains at record levels. According to official data, China imported over 1,000 tonnes of gold up to August this year—significantly higher than the amount purchased last year. Driven by this global demand, gold prices in Indian markets have also risen today.
Today's gold price

Similarly, the price of 22-carat gold has increased by ₹8,000 per 100 grams to ₹14,13,500, and by ₹800 per 10 grams to ₹1,41,300.
