Silver Price Drops by ₹25,000 in 10 Days
The price of one kilogram of silver has fallen by ₹25,000 over the last 10 days. After dropping by ₹5,000 on October 23, the price remained stable for five consecutive days; however, it subsequently fell by ₹20,000 per kilogram over the next three days—from October 29 to October 31. Currently, one kilogram of silver is trading at ₹2,00,000 in Delhi. It is being sold at the same price in other major metropolitan cities, including Mumbai, Chennai, and Kolkata.
Factors exerting pressure on gold and silver prices:
Geopolitical instability, coupled with a surge in crude oil prices, is dampening the appeal of gold and silver. Furthermore, the hawkish monetary policies of central banks are contributing to this softening. To curb inflation, central banks worldwide may raise interest rates. The US Federal Reserve, which hiked interest rates by 25 basis points in September, kept rates unchanged in its October policy review—though it has signaled potential future hikes. In India, too, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) raised interest rates by 25 basis points in early October. Generally, an environment of rising interest rates tends to diminish the luster of gold.
