Get Solar Panels Installed at Home for Free—No Out-of-Pocket Expense

The Delhi government is gearing up to install solar panels on the rooftops of 230,000 homes by March 2027. The government will bear the entire initial cost of the rooftop solar installation.

There is great news for the residents of Delhi. The government has approved a scheme that makes rooftop solar installation completely free. The Delhi government has sanctioned major changes to its solar energy policy, launching a 'Free Rooftop Solar Scheme' for domestic consumers.

The objective of this scheme is to install rooftop solar systems in 230,000 homes across the capital by 2027. Under this new government initiative, domestic consumers who use up to 400 units of electricity per month will be eligible for free solar panel installation. The government will cover all initial costs. This major policy shift was announced during a cabinet meeting.

No Cost to the Consumer

Under the new rules, households consuming up to 400 units of electricity per month can receive a solar system of up to 3 kilowatts for free, provided the installation is technically feasible. The total funding for this will be approximately ₹1.56 lakh, comprising a ₹78,000 subsidy from the Central Government and an equal capital subsidy from the Delhi Government. This means consumers will incur no initial investment costs. Furthermore, the scheme includes free maintenance for five years; selected vendors will handle the operation and maintenance of the solar systems entirely free of charge for this period.
