Get a Free LPG Cylinder: How to Claim This Special Diwali Gift?
With the festive season underway, several states are offering eligible families either free LPG cylinders or financial assistance equivalent to the cost of a cylinder. Find out who is eligible for this benefit.
Navratri begins on October 11, followed by Diwali and Chhath in November. During the festive season, people naturally prepare special meals at home, leading to an increase in LPG cylinder consumption. In light of this, the government is providing relief to many families regarding LPG cylinders.
The government is offering free cylinders to families from economically weaker sections during major festivals like Diwali. However, the rules and eligibility criteria for availing this benefit may vary from state to state.
Not Everyone Gets a Free Cylinder
It is important to note that not every LPG consumer receives a free cylinder; the benefit is primarily available to eligible beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY). Additionally, in some states, families holding AAY and BPL ration cards are also eligible. Let us look at the benefits offered in different states and the conditions that must be met to avail them.
Three Free Cylinders in These States
In Goa, Uttarakhand, and Andhra Pradesh, eligible beneficiary families receive three free cylinders annually, rather than just two.
No Free Cylinders in Delhi?
In the capital, Delhi, there is no direct provision for free cylinders; instead, families holding ration cards receive financial assistance equivalent to the cost of a cylinder.
Who Gets a Cylinder in Uttar Pradesh?
In Uttar Pradesh, eligible PMUY beneficiaries receive free cylinders on the occasions of Holi and Diwali, meaning they avail the benefit of free cylinders twice a year.
How to Avail the Free Cylinder Benefit?
The most important point is how to avail of this benefit; you do not need to fill out any separate forms or make repeated visits to government offices. First, verify whether the e-KYC for your gas connection has been completed, as the absence of e-KYC could make it difficult to access the benefit.
You can check this status either through your gas agency or online. Subsequently, in states where free cylinders are provided, beneficiaries should visit their nearest gas agency to verify their eligibility and follow the prescribed procedure.
Reasons why you might not receive the benefit
If the free cylinder scheme is available in your state, the government has made e-KYC mandatory for gas connections starting October 1st; failing to complete this could hinder your ability to receive the free cylinder. Additionally, discrepancies regarding bank details or Aadhaar information could also prevent you from availing of the benefit.
Didn’t receive the cylinder despite everything being in order?
If you are eligible but still do not receive the free cylinder, first double-check your e-KYC status and documents. Then, contact your gas agency to understand the reason for the issue.
