Google is now preparing to add a chat search feature to the Android version of its Gemini app. According to a screenshot shared on social media, users will now be able to search old chats by typing keywords. This feature is already available in iOS and web versions, but Android users were waiting for it till now, although Google has not yet officially confirmed this rollout.

First glimpse seen on Reddit

Reddit user u/JosefTor7 shared a screenshot of this new feature on the r/Bard group, in which a search bar with “Search for chats” written on it was seen. This search bar was seen inside the hamburger menu in the top left corner.

However, Amar Ujala's team could not trace this feature in the app. It is believed that Google is rolling it out in a phased manner, and it may be available to all Android users in a few weeks. A user wrote in the Reddit post, "This app was not listed in the update notes, perhaps it has been quietly added through a server-side update."

Why is this feature special?
Gemini users have been demanding this search bar for a long time. Earlier, to find old chats, users had to scroll through the side panel in the web or iOS versions. Now, with the help of this new search bar, users can easily search for old conversations by typing keywords or phrases. This search bar will not only match words, but will also be able to understand the emotion and meaning of the user's search; this is called semantic search.
