Google has made a big announcement. Google has said that now Google Workspace users are going to get the facility of custom AI assistants called Gems. Earlier, these Gems were available only on the Gemini app and website, but now the company is including them in Workspace apps like Gmail, Docs, Slides, Sheets, and Drive through the Gemini side panel.

What are Gemini's Gems?

Gems are actually like mini versions of Gemini chatbots. These are custom AI experts, which can be programmed for a specific task by giving instructions once. They do not need to be instructed again and again. Users can also add text, files, or images so that Gems can give more accurate and useful answers. This feature will be available only to paid Workspace users (individual and enterprise account holders). Only those users who already have the facility of the Gemini side panel.

What can Gems do?

Some pre-made Gems will now be provided in the side panel of Workspace.

Like: Writing Editor- will give feedback on the written content.

Brainstormer- will give new ideas and inspiration for a project.

Sales Pitch Ideator- will create attractive sales pitches for customers.

You can also create your Gem.

If users want, they can create a new Gem by clicking on the “Create a new Gem” button. In this, you can tell the role and instructions of the Gem. These Gems can write code, do analysis, create social media posts, or prepare summaries.

Direct connection with Workspace

These Gems will have direct integration in Workspace apps, which means whatever output the Gem gives, you will be able to use it immediately in the same app (like Gmail, Docs or Sheets). Once a Gem is created, it will be visible in all Workspace apps.
