LPG e-KYC Alert: There is important news for customers of Indane, BharatGas, and HP Gas. According to strict directives from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, the deadline for all domestic (LPG) consumers to complete Aadhaar-based biometric e-KYC is tomorrow, June 30. This means that if you do not complete the e-KYC process with your respective gas agency by tomorrow, the government gas subsidy credited to your bank account could be stopped permanently.

Under the new LPG e-KYC rules, customers who fail to complete the LPG Aadhaar biometric authentication process before June 30 may stop receiving the LPG subsidy directly into their bank accounts. This implies that while Indane Gas, Bharat Gas, and HP Gas customers can continue to book and receive LPG cylinders, they may have to pay the full price for the cylinder without the subsidy refund.

Why is LPG e-KYC necessary?

The government aims to eliminate fake connections, duplicate connections, and domestic connections being illegally used for commercial purposes from the system. Due to the significant price difference between commercial and domestic cylinders, domestic cylinders are often illegally used in restaurants, *dhabas* (roadside eateries), or small factories. Through Aadhaar authentication, the government intends to ensure that subsidy funds reach only eligible and needy families directly.

Eliminating fake connections will save taxpayers' money.

Will the LPG connection be disconnected after June 30? It has not yet been officially stated that LPG connections belonging to customers who miss the June 30 deadline will be cancelled. However, if you do not complete the LPG e-KYC process by June 30, subsidy payments under the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme could be halted; this will not, however, lead to the immediate cancellation of your LPG connection. The impact is expected to be on your eligibility for the LPG subsidy rather than on the availability of LPG cylinders or the domestic gas supply.

How to complete e-KYC from home?

  • First, download the official app of your gas provider from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
  • Indane users should download the 'IndianOil One' app, HP Gas users the 'HPPay' app, and Bharat Gas users the 'Hello BPCL' app.
  • Along with the provider's app, you must also download UIDAI's 'Aadhaar FaceRD' app.
  • Sign in or register on the app using the mobile number registered with your gas connection.
  • Navigate to the 'Main Profile' section within the app and select the 'Re-eKYC' or 'Link Aadhaar' option.
  • The app will activate your mobile's front camera, and your face will be scanned using the 'Aadhaar FaceRD' app.
  • After this, an OTP will be sent to the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar; enter this OTP.

Your e-KYC will be submitted.

If you encounter difficulties completing the e-KYC via mobile, you can visit your nearest gas agency to get it done. For this, carry your gas passbook, Aadhaar card, and registered mobile number with you.
