If you have an Indane, Bharat Gas, or HP LPG connection in your home, this news is of great importance to you. Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have implemented several new and stringent regulations regarding gas booking, delivery, and Piped Natural Gas (PNG). These new rules introduced by the oil companies are set to impact millions of people.

Additionally, the oil companies have issued a new advisory urging consumers to transition from LPG to PNG wherever possible. Amidst reports of gas shortages, black market, and supply-related issues in several states, the companies have also appealed to customers to refrain from panicking or hoarding excessive gas cylinders.

**Second Cylinder Not Available Immediately**

To curb the black marketing of gas cylinders, the government has extended the mandatory waiting period between two bookings. In urban areas, consumers will now be able to book a second cylinder only after a gap of 25 days, while for those residing in rural areas, the mandatory waiting period has been set at 45 days. This means that a new cylinder can now be booked only 45 days after the delivery of the previous one. This rule applies to both types of domestic cylinders: the 14.2 kg and the 5 kg variants.

**No Delivery Without an OTP**

You will no longer receive your gas cylinder immediately upon the delivery agent's arrival at your doorstep. To enhance security, an OTP (One-Time Password)-based delivery system has been made mandatory. When receiving your cylinder, you will receive a One-Time Password on your registered mobile number, which you must provide to the delivery agent. The cylinder will not be delivered to you until you provide this OTP. Therefore, if your mobile number is not currently updated in the records, visit your gas agency immediately to update it with your correct contact details.

**No More Confusion Regarding e-KYC**

Biometric Aadhaar authentication has been made mandatory for beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY). The Ministry has also clarified that this e-KYC process is required only for general (Non-PMUY) customers who have not yet completed it even once. If you have already completed your e-KYC formalities in the past, there is no need for you to go through the process again. Will LPG Connections Be Discontinued After June?
In light of the prevailing situation, the government had announced in March 2026 that all citizens should transition from LPG to PNG. Furthermore, it stated that households possessing both LPG and PNG connections should voluntarily surrender their LPG connections; otherwise, the government would proceed to disconnect them. Consequently, the government is currently working on a policy of "one household, one gas connection." Households that already have access to PNG (Piped Natural Gas) facilities are being requested to surrender their LPG connections. Some media reports claim that LPG connections for households with PNG access could be discontinued after June 30, 2026; however, the government has not yet issued an official deadline regarding this matter.

What Have the Oil Companies Said?
Oil companies have clarified that the supply of LPG across the country remains entirely normal and adequate. Reports of black marketing have emerged from certain states—including Karnataka—and these instances are being strictly monitored. The companies have appealed to customers to refrain from panic-booking and from stockpiling cylinders in their homes beyond what is necessary. While online booking is being encouraged to promote the 'Digital India' initiative, the use of PNG, induction cooktops, and electric cooking methods is also being actively promoted.

These new regulations are expected to have their most significant and direct impact on customers in urban areas, particularly on families that are already utilizing piped gas (PNG). Now that the lock-in period for bookings has been extended to 25 days and the OTP (One-Time Password) verification system has been made mandatory, individuals will need to plan their kitchen budgets and gas bookings with greater foresight and prudence than before.
