Ganga Expressway Inauguration: Today has been a truly special day for the people of Uttar Pradesh. On April 29, Prime Minister Narendra Modi (PM Modi) inaugurated the Ganga Expressway—one of the country's longest expressways—at Mallawan in Hardoi. With the opening of this expressway, the journey from Meerut to Prayagraj will now become significantly faster and easier than ever before. Meanwhile, a question regarding this expressway is whether or not the annual FASTag pass introduced by the NHAI will be valid here. Let's find out.

What are the rules regarding the FASTag Annual Pass?
It is important to note that the FASTag annual pass functions exclusively on National Highways; it cannot be utilized on expressways. This means that if you are using the ₹3,075 FASTag annual pass, it will not be valid on the Ganga Expressway. You will be required to pay a separate toll for travel on this specific expressway.

However, for the convenience of travelers, UPEIDA has introduced a separate pass system. Regular commuters traveling on the Ganga Expressway will be offered two types of passes by UPEIDA:

Return Journey Pass
If you complete a round trip (to and fro) within the same day, you will be eligible for a toll concession. With this pass, you will only be required to pay approximately 1.6 times the cost of a one-way toll.

Monthly Pass
This pass is designed for residents or for individuals who anticipate traveling on the expressway more than 20 times within a single month. Regular commuters availing this pass will receive special discounts.

Speed and Safety Regulations
The Ganga Expressway has been designed to facilitate fast and safe travel. The maximum speed limit for light motor vehicles, such as cars, is set at 120 km/h. Conversely, for heavy vehicles—such as buses and trucks—the speed limit has been fixed within the range of 80 to 100 km/h.

Continuous Surveillance
High-tech cameras have been installed along the expressway at intervals of every 500 meters to 1 kilometer. These cameras will continuously monitor every vehicle traveling on the route.

How much will the toll be?
The toll charges will be levied based on the distance traveled. For two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and tractors: ₹1.28 per km
For cars, jeeps, and vans (light vehicles): ₹2.55 per km
For light commercial vehicles/mini-buses: ₹4.05 per km
For buses and trucks (heavy vehicles): ₹8.20 per km
For heavy machinery/multi-axle vehicles (3–6 axles): ₹12.60 per km
Traveling from Meerut to Prayagraj by car may incur a toll charge of approximately ₹1,515.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has described this expressway as a new driving force for the development of Uttar Pradesh. It will enhance connectivity across several districts.
