The draft of the 'G-RAM-G' (G-RAM-G) law, which replaces the world's largest employment guarantee scheme, MNREGA, has been designed keeping in mind the development needs of rural India. Under this law, if work is not provided within the stipulated time, workers will be given an unemployment allowance. Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, stated this during a direct interaction with rural workers in Erode, Tamil Nadu, on Monday. During this interaction, the Rural Development Minister explained the features of the new 'G-RAM-G' law in detail to hundreds of rural workers.

According to the Ministry of Rural Development, "The 'Developed India - G-RAM-G Act' lays the foundation for self-reliant villages. This new scheme is a pledge to create poverty-free, employment-rich, self-sufficient, and self-reliant villages. This historic scheme is a concrete initiative towards generating employment, expanding basic facilities, and strengthening self-reliance in villages. Its implementation, along with public participation, will realize the dream of developed and prosperous villages."

What did the Union Minister say about the scheme?
Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan assured farmers and laborers in Erode that no one will be allowed to misappropriate the funds allocated for laborers and workers after the implementation of the new 'G-RAM-G' law. Explaining the various provisions of this ambitious initiative, Shivraj Singh Chouhan said:

In the previous system, under MNREGA, there was a guarantee of 100 days of employment, but in many places, neither work was available on time nor were wages paid on time.

To address these shortcomings and eliminate corruption, the government has introduced reforms through the Developed India – G-RAM-G Act. Under the new law, the employment guarantee has been increased from 100 days to 125 days.

If work is not provided within the stipulated period, workers will be given an unemployment allowance. Similarly, if there is a delay of more than 15 days in the payment of wages, interest will also be paid on it. 'Village councils will be empowered, corruption will be stopped.'
The Rural Development Minister assured farmers that the new law includes provisions that will empower village councils, allowing them to decide for themselves which development projects should be undertaken in their villages.

One of the reasons behind the changes to this scheme is to ensure that the money allocated for laborers and workers reaches their bank accounts directly, thereby preventing corruption. This direct interaction with rural workers and farmers in Tamil Nadu was organized as part of the Indian government's efforts to raise awareness across the country about the new 'G Ram Ji' law.
