Petrol-Diesel Rates Today: As of today, April 12, petrol and diesel prices remain stable across the country's major cities. Crude oil prices are skyrocketing against the backdrop of disruptions in global fuel supplies. International oil prices have been on a continuous upward trajectory since the U.S. and Israel launched attacks in Iran. These prices have surged by approximately 50 percent and have now crossed the $100-per-barrel mark.

Relief for Consumers in India

Despite significant volatility in global crude oil markets, oil companies and the government have shielded domestic consumers from the impact of these fluctuations. Amidst concerns regarding rising inflation, the government announced a cut in excise duty on petrol and diesel to partially alleviate the necessity for price increases. According to a PTI report, Jio-BP—the country's second-largest private fuel retailer—currently has no immediate plans to raise fuel prices.

Despite the massive surge in international oil prices, this joint fuel venture between Reliance Industries Ltd and BP Plc has kept its fuel rates stable. According to the PTI report, Akshay Wadhwa, CEO of Jio-BP, stated on Friday that the company currently has no plans to hike rates. It is noteworthy that the conflict in the Middle East has disrupted oil supplies due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz; this route accounts for 20 percent of global fuel supplies.

No Relief from Private Companies

Private fuel retailers such as Nayara Energy and Shell have raised their prices for petrol and diesel. Nayara Energy features a significant stake held by Rosneft, a major Russian oil company. It has hiked prices by up to ₹5 for petrol and ₹3 for diesel. Prices at Shell petrol pumps are also often higher compared to government-run pumps. The company charges a premium in the name of superior service and premium fuel.
