There's good news for women in Delhi ahead of the new year. Women who have been eagerly awaiting the Pink Saheli smart card for free travel on DTC buses will finally receive it. This benefit will begin at the start of 2026. After a lengthy process, the Delhi Transport Department has finalized two payment banks, Airtel and Muffin Payment Bank, to issue the smart cards.

According to reports, the government will open counters in various parts of Delhi from the new year to facilitate the issuance of Saheli smart cards. Women will be able to obtain the Pink Saheli card at these counters by showing their Delhi Aadhaar card as proof of identity. According to DTC officials, the selected banks will issue three types of smart cards for bus passengers.

These 3 cards will be issued for Delhi buses:
The first will be the Pink Saheli card, which will be available only to women in Delhi. This card will be mandatory for girls and women aged 12 years and above. After receiving the card, women will be able to travel for free by tapping the card on the electronic ticketing machine (ETM) held by the bus conductor. Currently, approximately 20 million women travel on buses in Delhi every month.

The second card will be for bus pass holders of various categories. These include more than 12 categories, including persons with disabilities, senior citizens, athletes, war widows, and national award winners. The third will be a general smart card, which any bus passenger can obtain. It will function like a MetroCard and will have the passenger's name and photo registered under full KYC (Know Your Customer) verification. According to sources, a minimum payment of Rs 120 will be required, after which it can be recharged for travel. This card can also be used on the metro.

Counters to be opened at various locations
Transport Minister Dr. Pankaj Singh said that the banks for the Pink Saheli card have been selected. The banks have been instructed to open counters at DM offices, SDM offices, bus depots, and CSCs (Common Service Centers) so that women do not face any difficulties in obtaining the cards. The banks will be fully responsible for opening these counters. This work will begin from the new year. If everything goes well, it can be launched anytime after January 14th.
