The main job of a Food Inspector is to take action against adulterated and substandard food. This officer collects food samples, prepares reports, and takes legal action against those who violate the rules.

The minimum age for applying for the Food Inspector position is 18 or 21 years, while the maximum age limit is approximately 40 years. However, candidates from reserved categories are given age relaxation benefits as per the state government rules.

To become a Food Inspector, a candidate must have a graduate degree from a recognized university. A degree in Food Technology, Agricultural Science, Dairy Technology, or other related science subjects is considered essential so that the candidate can properly understand the tasks related to food quality and safety.

After selection for the Food Inspector position, the candidate receives a salary of approximately ₹35,000 to ₹40,000 per month. With time, experience, and promotions, the salary increases, potentially reaching ₹60,000 to ₹70,000 per month or even more. Government allowances are also provided in addition to the salary.

Food Inspectors are usually recruited by the State Public Service Commission or the relevant recruiting agency. Candidates have to appear for a written examination for selection.
