Rule Changes Effective May 1, 2026: With the onset of May, several key regulations impacting the finances and daily lives of the general public are set to change. Starting May 1, 2026, several major financial changes will come into effect. The impact of these changes will be felt across various sectors—ranging from cooking gas prices to ATMs, credit cards, fuel, travel, and online gaming. Consequently, you must familiarize yourself with these changes in advance to better manage your expenses and financial planning.

**Changes in LPG Cylinder Prices**
On the first day of every month, oil companies release the new rates for LPG cylinders. This time, too—on May 1—changes in the prices of both domestic and commercial gas cylinders are anticipated. Given that prices saw an upward revision last month, the public will once again be keeping a close watch on the new rates.

Furthermore, changes to the cylinder delivery system are also a possibility. Companies may fully implement an OTP-based delivery system. Additionally, some modifications to the rules regarding gas booking may also be observed.

**Changes in ATF and CNG/PNG Rates**
Effective May 1, the prices of Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF)—the fuel used for aircraft—may also undergo revision. This could have a direct impact on air travel fares. Concurrently, the prices of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Piped Natural Gas (PNG) may also be revised. Consequently, this could lead to changes in expenses for car owners and those utilizing gas-based services.

**ATM Cash Withdrawals Now More Expensive**
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved an increase in ATM interchange fees. Now, once the free transaction limit has been exhausted, a fee of ₹23 will be levied for every subsequent cash withdrawal—up from the previous rate of ₹21. Regarding the free transaction limits:

Customers are entitled to 5 free transactions per month at their own bank's ATMs.
At other banks' ATMs, customers are allowed 3 free transactions per month in metro cities and 5 free transactions in non-metro cities.
Any transaction conducted beyond these limits will incur a service charge.

**New Rules for SBI Credit Cards**
New regulations will also come into effect starting May 1 for customers holding SBI Credit Cards. Changes have been introduced regarding late payment charges. A charge of ₹100 will be levied on outstanding dues ranging from ₹100 to ₹500.
A fee of ₹500 will be applicable on outstanding dues ranging from ₹500 to ₹1,000.
Additionally, the rule regarding the annual fee for the BPCL SBI Credit Card has also been revised. The annual fee will now be reversed upon an annual spend of ₹1 lakh—a benefit that was previously available at a spend of ₹50,000.

**Online Gaming Regulations Tightened**
The government has implemented new regulations for the online gaming sector. Under these rules, a new regulatory body will be established to oversee the sector. Games have now been categorized into three segments: Money Games, Social Games, and Esports. Registration will be mandatory, particularly for games involving monetary stakes, and user transactions will be monitored.
