Delhi Budget 2026: While presenting the 2026-27 budget, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta made several significant announcements. The most notable feature of this budget is that it has been designated a "Green Budget," emphasizing development alongside environmental sustainability. Additionally, to provide relief to the common people, the budget includes a scheme to provide free LPG cylinders on Holi and Diwali.

Free LPG and Budget Size

The government has allocated ₹260 crore to provide two free LPG cylinders per year to every family—one on Holi and one on Diwali. This year, the total budget outlay has been set at ₹1,03,700 crore. Furthermore, ₹11,666 crore has been allocated to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). The government estimates a tax revenue collection of ₹74,000 crore this year.

Focus on Infrastructure and Development

The government has placed special emphasis on roads, connectivity, and urban development. ₹5,921 crore has been earmarked for the PWD, while ₹7,887 crore has been allocated for urban development and housing projects. Additionally, the Electricity Department has been allotted ₹3,942 crore, with a separate allocation of ₹200 crore specifically for the removal of overhead wires. A sum of ₹1,352 crore will be spent to make 750 km of roads in Delhi dust-free. Meanwhile, a budget of ₹300 crore has been set for the development of the Trans-Yamuna region, and ₹787 crore for rural development.

Water, Sewage, and Other Major Projects

To address water-related challenges, the government has allocated ₹9,000 crore to the Delhi Jal Board. Additionally, ₹475 crore has been allocated for the Chandrawal Water Treatment Plant to ensure that people do not have to stand in queues for water. A provision of ₹454 crore has been made for the improvement of the Najafgarh Drain, and ₹350 crore has been allocated for the MLA Fund. Furthermore, ₹151 crore has been provided for the extension of the Modi Mill Flyover.

Safety and New Initiatives

Referring to the Palam fire incident, the CM stated that firefighting operations are challenging in narrow lanes; therefore, ₹674 crore has been allocated to strengthen the Fire Services. Additionally, a new provision of ₹160 crore has been made for the development of industrial areas. The government will also construct a new Integrated Secretariat and a residential complex for government employees.

The CM highlighted that prior to formulating this budget, suggestions were sought from various sections of society—such as the transgender community, gig workers, and laborers. He emphasized that the roadmap for a "Developed Delhi" has been crafted through public participation. Overall, this budget has been designed with a keen focus on the environment, infrastructure, and the needs of the common people, placing equal emphasis on both relief measures and developmental initiatives.
