Fraud Alert: Have you been a victim of investment fraud? File a complaint directly with the RBI... Here's how...
In today's world, almost all of our financial activities have gone digital. From payments to investments and banking, everything relies on mobile phones and the internet. But along with convenience, the risks have also increased rapidly. Online fraud, fake investment schemes, and scammers promising false returns are using new methods every day to trap people.
Often, people lose their hard-earned savings due to the lure of high profits. If your money is also stuck in a fraudulent investment scheme, don't sit idly by. You can file a complaint directly with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
Where to file a complaint?
You can file a complaint on the RBI's Sachet portal. The Sachet portal is an online platform launched by the RBI where ordinary people can easily report fraudulent investment schemes. If a company or scheme is extorting money by luring people with promises of high returns, running illegal chit funds, or conducting financial activities without permission, a complaint can be filed here.
The purpose of this portal is to protect people from fraud and to alert them in time. After a complaint is filed, the RBI forwards the matter to the appropriate department, such as SEBI or the police, so that necessary action can be taken. Remember that if a company is claiming to double your money every month or promising 20-30% guaranteed returns, it could be a scam.
How to file a complaint on the Sachet Portal?
If you have been a victim of a fraudulent scheme, filing a complaint is very easy. Here's a step-by-step guide:
First, go to the RBI's Sachet Portal (https://sachet.rbi.org.in).
On the homepage, click on "File a Complaint".
Now fill in all the details of the company or scheme.
Be sure to mention the amount of money invested.
If you don't know which regulator the case falls under, select the "Can't find regulator" option.
Providing your mobile number is mandatory so that you can receive updates via SMS. Once your complaint is registered, you will receive a reference number, which you can use to track the status online.
What happens after filing a complaint?
After receiving the complaint, the RBI forwards the case to the appropriate authority, such as SEBI, IRDAI, the State Government, and the Police Department etc. In addition, the RBI's SLCC (State Level Coordination Committee) team also assists in processing the complaint.
Where else can you file a complaint besides the RBI?
If the matter is related to cyber fraud or online scams, you can also file a complaint on these platforms:
Cyber Crime Portal: https://cybercrime.gov.in
Helpline Number: 1930 (Toll-free)
Chakshu Portal: For reporting fake calls, SMS, and spam.
