First-Time Mothers to Receive ₹5,000 Support Under Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana
The Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), a flagship scheme of the central government, is bringing relief and confidence to lakhs of women across the country. Designed especially for first-time mothers, the scheme offers financial assistance to support nutrition, medical checkups, and overall health during pregnancy.
Reeta, a 25-year-old homemaker, recently benefited from this programme. “When I learned that the government would deposit ₹5,000 into my bank account, I felt incredibly relieved. It helped me manage doctor visits and medication without worrying about money,” she shared.
Key Benefits of the Scheme
Under PMMVY, first-time pregnant women receive a total of ₹5,000 in three instalments, aimed at ensuring proper medical care and nutrition:
-
1st Instalment – ₹1,000: Provided after early registration of pregnancy.
-
2nd Instalment – ₹2,000: Given after completing at least one antenatal checkup and reaching six months of pregnancy.
-
3rd Instalment – ₹2,000: Released after registering the child’s birth and completing the first round of vaccination.
A notable feature of the revised scheme is that if the second child is a girl, the mother may receive an additional ₹6,000, helping promote girl-child welfare while reducing the financial burden on families. All payments are transferred directly to the mother's bank or post office account to ensure transparency and immediate access.
