Government Jobs for Ex-Agniveers: The Central Government is preparing employment options across various government departments for Agniveers who will leave the Army after completing their four-year tenure.

Government Jobs for Ex-Agniveers: The first batch of Agniveers recruited under the Agnipath scheme will retire this year after completing four years of military service. The Central Government is formulating employment avenues in various government departments for these Agniveers upon their exit from the Army. According to reports, ex-Agniveers may be given the option to choose their preferred department or location for future employment. The Ministry of Home Affairs has already held meetings with officials from the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and the Ministry of Defence regarding this matter. Let us now look at the government jobs available to the first batch of Agniveers retiring in 2026 after their four-year service.

Reservation for Ex-Agniveers in Railways

A collaborative framework has been established between Indian Railways and the Indian Army for ex-Agniveers. The objective is to enhance post-retirement employment opportunities for Agniveers and personnel transitioning from military to civilian life. Under this initiative, a reservation of 5% has been provisioned for ex-Agniveers in Railway posts at Level 2 and above, and 10% in Level 1 posts. Meanwhile, ex-servicemen are entitled to a 10% reservation for posts at Level 2 and above, and 20% for Level 1 posts.

50% Reservation in CAPF and Assam Rifles

Significant employment opportunities for ex-Agniveers also exist within the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and the Assam Rifles. The Ministry of Home Affairs has already announced that 50% of the vacancies for posts such as Constable (General Duty) and Rifleman in these forces will be reserved for ex-Agniveers. The Ministry of Home Affairs has informed Parliament that ex-Agniveers will be exempted from the written examination for recruitment to these posts. Additionally, they will be exempted from the Physical Standard Test and the Physical Efficiency Test.

Government Job Opportunities in States

Apart from the Centre, some states have also made provisions for reservation in government jobs for ex-Agniveers. The reservation quota for such posts ranges from 10% to 20% across different states. Chandigarh has approved reservation for ex-Agniveers in several departments. A 20% reservation has been granted for direct recruitment posts of Group-C Jail Warders in the Chandigarh Jail Department. Furthermore, provisions have been made for a 20% reservation for ex-Agniveers in eligible posts within the Chandigarh Fire Service and the Forest Department.

What Happens After 4 Years?

The Central Government is preparing to provide employment opportunities to ex-Agniveers in various government organizations after they leave the armed forces. These include central forces, the Railways, state-level police forces, and other government departments. Additionally, reports from July indicate that the Central Government is considering retaining a significant number of Agniveers in regular service after the completion of their four-year tenure.
