FASTag News: From North to South... On Which States' National Highways Will Travel Become Most Expensive Starting April 1st?

FASTag News: If you are among those who frequently travel via National Highways, this journey is about to become more expensive for you. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has hiked toll plaza rates on National Highways and Expressways, effective from the financial year commencing April 1st. This means that starting the 1st of next month, you may have to dig a little deeper into your pockets while traveling on these routes. It is worth noting that, on average, toll rates across plazas nationwide have seen an increase of 4–5 percent.

Delhi-Meerut Expressway

For light vehicles, including cars, jeeps, vans or light motor vehicles, the one-way fare will be ₹175, up from ₹170 previously.
The return fare will be ₹265, up from ₹255 previously.

Bengaluru–Mysore Expressway

3-5% increase

The toll charge for cars will remain unchanged and will remain around ₹120. However, the fare for larger vehicles like LCVs/trucks will increase by ₹5-15. 

Delhi-Jaipur Highway 

5-20% increase

Increase in fares for commercial vehicles at major toll plazas like Shahjahanpur.

Other routes of UP 

5-10% increase

Slight increase in fare for private vehicles on routes from Lucknow to Kanpur, Ayodhya and Rae Bareli.

How Much Will Tolls Increase on Various Routes?

  • In Uttar Pradesh, toll costs on routes such as the Delhi-Meerut Expressway, National Highway-9, and Lucknow-Kanpur are set to rise by up to 5 percent. This will place an additional financial burden on commuters traveling from Delhi to Meerut or from Lucknow to Kanpur.
  • In Rajasthan, toll plaza expenses are also expected to rise on routes such as Jaipur-Delhi, Jaipur-Ajmer, and Jaipur-Kishangarh. Reports suggest that on the Jaipur-Kishangarh route, the toll for cars will increase from ₹140 to ₹155. Meanwhile, those undertaking long-distance journeys—such as traveling from Delhi to Mumbai via Rajasthan—will have to pay an additional ₹5–15 at every toll plaza.
  • In Tamil Nadu, located in South India, there are over 65 toll plazas. With the anticipated hike in toll charges effective April 1st, travelers on the Chennai Bypass and the Chennai-Tirupati Highway will now have to spend more money compared to before.
  • Toll rates on the Bengaluru-Mysuru and Bengaluru Airport Road routes are also expected to rise by an average of 3–5 percent. These routes experience heavy traffic volumes.
  • On the Delhi-Sonipat-Panipat and Ambala-Chandigarh routes, the toll cost for both commercial and private vehicles is likely to increase by an amount ranging between ₹5 and ₹15.
