Frequent highway travelers in India now have a reason to celebrate. From August 15, 2025, the government has officially rolled out the FASTag-based Annual Toll Pass for private vehicles. This new facility aims to significantly cut travel costs, making long drives more budget-friendly and hassle-free.

Under this scheme, private car, jeep, and van owners can make up to 200 toll trips in a year for a one-time payment of ₹3,000. Whether you regularly commute between cities or enjoy weekend road trips, this pass can help you save big on toll expenses.

What is the FASTag Annual Toll Pass?

Introduced by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) in collaboration with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), the pass allows eligible private vehicles to travel across national highways and expressways without paying tolls on each trip.

Instead of paying ₹50 or more per trip, you can make unlimited journeys until you either complete 200 trips or your one-year validity ends — whichever comes first.

Cost and Validity

  • Price: ₹3,000 per year

  • Validity: 12 months or 200 toll trips (whichever comes first)

  • Once the trip limit or time period ends, the pass expires automatically, and the FASTag reverts to regular toll payment mode.

Who Can Apply?

This scheme is exclusively for non-commercial private vehicles, meaning only cars, jeeps, and vans registered for personal use are eligible.

Not eligible:

  • Taxis

  • Buses

  • Trucks

  • Any other commercial vehicles

The pass is valid on national highways and expressways managed by NHAI and MoRTH. On state highways, it will be applicable only if they are integrated into the central FASTag system.

How to Get the FASTag Annual Pass

To apply for the pass, your vehicle must have an active FASTag linked to your registration number. If your FASTag is linked only to the chassis number, you must update it before applying.

Steps to Apply:

  1. Visit the Rajmarg Yatra mobile app, NHAI website, MoRTH website, or your registered FASTag portal.

  2. Select the option for Annual Toll Pass.

  3. Make the payment using UPI, debit card, credit card, or net banking.

    • Note: You cannot use your FASTag wallet balance for this payment.

  4. After successful payment, the pass is usually activated within two hours.

  5. You will receive an SMS confirmation once activated.

How Trips Are Counted

  • Point-based toll plazas: Each direction counts as one trip. A round trip equals two trips.

  • Closed or ticket-based toll systems: The entire journey from entry to exit counts as one trip.

Potential Savings

Normally, a private vehicle toll is around ₹50 per trip. Over 200 trips, that adds up to approximately ₹10,000 annually. With the annual pass, you’ll only pay ₹3,000, resulting in savings of nearly ₹7,000 per year.

Why This is a Game-Changer for Drivers

With this initiative, drivers no longer need to worry about frequent toll payments or carrying cash. For commuters who travel daily for work or families who love road trips, the pass offers predictable costs, faster journeys, and significant yearly savings.

The FASTag Annual Toll Pass is another step towards making India’s highways more efficient and traveler-friendly — ensuring smooth, cashless, and affordable road travel for millions.
