FASTag Annual Pass Launching from August 15: Get 200 Free Trips for Just ₹3,000 — Here’s How It Works

For those who commute daily via highways, the Indian government has announced a game-changing facility. Starting August 15, 2025, the FASTag Annual Pass will be available, allowing private vehicle owners to travel toll-free across national highways and expressways for up to 200 trips or one full year by paying a one-time fee of ₹3,000.

What is the FASTag Annual Pass?

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has introduced this scheme to benefit frequent travelers. Instead of paying toll charges on every trip, users can now make a one-time annual payment, saving both time and money. The service will be applicable across the entire National Highway (NH) and National Expressway (NE) network.

Who Can Avail This Pass?

  • Only private car, jeep, and van owners are eligible.

  • Commercial vehicles are excluded from this scheme.

Why Was This Scheme Introduced?

The government aims to reduce hassle for daily commuters who face repetitive toll payments, especially on routes with multiple toll plazas. This pass will help:

  • Ease congestion at toll booths.

  • Encourage more digital payments.

  • Provide financial relief to regular highway travelers.

How to Get the FASTag Annual Pass?

  • Apply via the Highway Saathi mobile app or visit the official NHAI website.

  • Pay a fee of ₹3,000 online.

  • Vehicle details will be verified through the VAHAN database.

  • After verification, the pass will be activated within 2 hours.

  • Misuse or providing false information can lead to immediate deactivation of the FASTag.

How Will the Pass Work?

  • The pass will allow toll-free travel at all NH and NE toll plazas.

  • It will remain active until either 200 trips are completed or 1 year is over, whichever comes first.

  • After expiry, the FASTag will automatically convert back to a regular FASTag.

  • On state highways, local roads, and parking areas, the tag will function as normal, and applicable charges will be deducted.

Trip Counting Mechanism:

  • Open Toll System (single plaza) — each crossing counts as one trip.

  • Closed Toll System (entry and exit plazas) — one entry-exit will count as one trip.

Government’s Stand:

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari emphasized that this initiative will eliminate hassles caused by back-to-back toll plazas and will prove highly beneficial for daily commuters and intercity travelers. If you frequently drive on highways, this pass could save you a significant amount of time and money.
