The central and state governments have been repeatedly stating for a long time that farmers need to obtain a Farmer ID if they want to benefit from government schemes. However, a large number of farmers across the country have not yet completed this simple task. In Bihar alone, approximately 7.1 million farmers have not yet registered for a Farmer ID. The Bihar government has launched a special campaign to complete this task. Special camps are being organized in every panchayat from January 6th to 9th.

If farmers do not complete the Farmer ID registration process within these four days, they may face a significant setback in February. In February, the 22nd installment of Rs. 2000 under the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme is expected to be credited to the accounts of eligible farmers. Approximately 7.5 million farmers in Bihar are currently benefiting from the PM Kisan scheme. However, only around 400,000 farmers have registered for a Farmer ID so far. The government has made it clear that farmers without a Farmer ID will not receive benefits from the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi or other government schemes.

Why is a Farmer ID necessary?
A Farmer ID is essentially an identity card for farmers. This unique ID will allow farmers to access scheme benefits and prevent others from misappropriating their entitlements. After registering for a Farmer ID, farmers can avail themselves of all government schemes of the agriculture department. Access to central government schemes like PM Kisan Samman Nidhi and PM Fasal Bima Yojana will also become easier. This will create a unified digital identity for all farmers.

Documents required for Farmer ID:
Aadhaar card
Mobile number
Land-related documents (online land records in the farmer's name)

How to get a Farmer ID:
The Bihar government has organized special camps at the panchayat level to facilitate Farmer ID registration. These camps are being held on January 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th. You need to visit these camps with your documents. There, you will need to contact the agriculture coordinator, farmer advisor, or local government employee. They will assist you in obtaining your Farmer ID. The farmer will need to complete biometric or facial authentication on the Farmer Registry portal or app. Along with this, a land-related claim will have to be filed. Revenue department officials will verify it. After this, the farmer will receive a Farmer ID.

Helpline numbers for Farmer ID
If you face any problems in obtaining a Farmer ID, you can contact the Agriculture Department's helpline number 18001801551 or the Revenue and Land Reforms Department's helpline number 18003456215.
