There is great news for farmers. If you have taken out a loan, you are set to receive relief from the government. The state government has released the second installment of loan waivers under the 'Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Shetkari Karjmukti Yojana'. In this phase, benefits amounting to approximately ₹5,086 crore have been extended to 6,36,036 farmers. This amount has been transferred directly to the bank accounts of eligible farmers. Details regarding this installment were announced in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

Before this, the first installment was released on August 7. At that time, the government had released ₹5,029 crore for 6,22,207 farmers. Combining both installments, a total of 12,58,243 farmers have so far benefited from loan waivers amounting to ₹10,115 crore. The government states that relief will continue to be provided to the remaining eligible farmers in a phased manner under the scheme.

Loans up to ₹2 lakh to be waived
The Maharashtra government had promised a farm loan waiver prior to the assembly elections. Subsequently, following demands and protests by farmers' organizations, the process of implementing the scheme was advanced. The government has decided to waive loans of up to ₹2 lakh for farmers.

The government estimates an expenditure of approximately ₹40,980 crore on the entire scheme. Under this initiative, loans for over 32 lakh farmers are slated to be waived. Additionally, more than 23 lakh farmers are expected to receive incentive grants. According to the government, the scheme could benefit around 56 lakh farmers in total.

Aid exceeding ₹10,000 crore across two installments
Instead of disbursing the loan waiver funds to all farmers simultaneously, the amount is being released in phases. Following the first and second installments, a total of ₹10,115 crore has been distributed so far. The government states that the list of eligible beneficiaries is being continuously updated, and funds are being transferred to accounts following verification. The objective of this process is to ensure that government assistance reaches the intended farmers. Farmers whose names appear on the scheme's list must also ensure that their documentation details are accurate and up-to-date.

How can one avail the benefit?
To avail the loan waiver benefit, it is mandatory for farmers to complete the Aadhaar verification and the process linked to AgriStack. Merely having one's name on the list will not result in payment if the required verification has not been completed. Therefore, farmers are advised to verify their Aadhaar linkage, bank account details, and scheme-related documents. The government is also preparing to extend the benefits to other eligible farmers soon.
