Fare Hike: Travelling by auto in Bangalore is now expensive, new rates will be applicable from August 1, know how much more fare you will have to pay..

If you travel by car daily in Bengaluru, then this news is for you. Those traveling by auto rickshaw within the city will now have to pay more fare than before. The Regional Transport Authority (RTA) of Bengaluru Urban district has announced a change in the fare of auto rickshaws running within the BBMP limits. The new rates will be applicable from August 1, 2025.
Now you will have to pay Rs 36 for 2 km.
Till now, the minimum fare of an auto was Rs 30, which was earlier applicable for 2 km. But now it has been increased to Rs 36. That is, now you will have to pay Rs 6 more to cover the same distance.
After 2 km, Rs 18 will be charged for every kilometer.
Earlier, Rs 15 was charged for every extra kilometer, but now it has been increased to Rs 18 per kilometer. This means that traveling long distances will have a greater impact on your pocket than before.
Travelling at night is even more expensive; a 50% extra charge will be levied
If you take an auto between 10 pm and 5 am, then you will have to pay a 50% extra charge on the regular fare. That is, if the journey is Rs 100 during the day, then the same journey at night will cost Rs 150.
It is necessary to update the meter in all autos by October 31
The Transport Department has also made it clear that all auto drivers will have to reverify and stamp their meters by October 31, 2025. Along with this, the correct information about the new fare should be displayed in the meter, so that the passengers do not have to face any kind of fraud.
Auto drivers demand a further increase in fare.
However, auto unions have expressed displeasure over this fare hike. They demanded that the minimum fare should be Rs 40 and the rate for additional kilometers should be Rs 20. But the government has increased it less than this, due to which the unions are not satisfied.
Passengers can get great relief.
In Bengaluru, auto rickshaw drivers usually refuse to run by meter and quote arbitrary fares. But if this new fare is implemented properly and drivers start running by meter, then passengers can get some relief. If the meter remains on with the new fare, then one can get rid of arguments and overcharging.
These rules will be applicable only in the BBMP area.
These new rates will be applicable only on autos running within the limits of BBMP (Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike). Fares may be different outside the city or in other districts.
If the driver asks for more money than the new rate, then complain.
If an auto driver asks for more money than the new rate, then you can complain about him to the Transport Department. Do not forget to take the receipt of the journey, and check the meter reading. This can help you avoid fraud.
This increase will definitely hurt the pocket of the common man, but if the meter system is implemented honestly with it, then the travel experience will be better. It is now the responsibility of the Transport Department to ensure that auto drivers follow these rules properly.
