Ex-Agniveer Reservation: 50% quota in new recruitments; know the eligibility, age limit, salary, and job opportunities.

According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, this reservation will apply to the recruitment of Constables in the CAPF (Central Armed Police Forces) and Riflemen in the Assam Rifles. In every recruitment year, 50% of the vacancies for these posts will be reserved for Ex-Agniveers.

Ex-Agniveer Reservation: The Central Government has taken a major decision regarding Agniveers who have completed their service under the Agnipath scheme. The Ministry of Home Affairs has announced that Ex-Agniveers will now receive 50% reservation in recruitment for the posts of Constable in the Central Armed Police Forces and Rifleman in the Assam Rifles. Additionally, they will be granted several key concessions during the recruitment process. Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai provided this information in a written reply in the Lok Sabha. The government states that a new category named ‘Ex-Agniveer’ has been created to simplify the recruitment process for them. Under this category, reservation, age limit relaxations, and special concessions in the recruitment process will be provided.

For which posts will the 50% reservation apply?

According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, this reservation will apply to the recruitment of Constables in the CAPF and Riflemen in the Assam Rifles. In every recruitment year, 50% of the vacancies for these posts will be reserved for Ex-Agniveers. Previously, in March 2023, the government had made a provision for 10% reservation for Ex-Agniveers; this has now been increased to 50%. Several central and security forces, such as the BSF and CISF, had also previously amended their recruitment rules to implement the proposal for increased reservation.

What relaxations will be provided in the recruitment process?

The Ministry of Home Affairs has decided to grant several necessary relaxations to Ex-Agniveers during the recruitment process. Under this, candidates will be exempted from the written examination, the Physical Standard Test, and the Physical Efficiency Test. The government believes that Agniveers acquire the necessary physical and professional training during their four-year tenure; therefore, they are being granted exemptions from these stages.

Relaxation in Age Limit

The government has also decided to relax the maximum age limit for ex-Agniveers. All eligible ex-Agniveers will receive a three-year relaxation in the upper age limit. Candidates from the first batch of the Agnipath scheme will be granted an additional five-year age relaxation. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Home Affairs has announced exemptions from the written examination and physical test for the recruitment process; however, no specific instructions have been issued yet regarding how the merit list will be prepared. The government has stated that detailed information in this regard will be released later.

When Will the First Batch Become Eligible?

The first batch recruited under the Agnipath scheme has not yet completed its four-year service tenure. Approximately 2,600 Agniveers from the first batch, who joined the Navy in November 2022, will complete their service this year. Following this, they will be eligible to apply to the CAPF and Assam Rifles under the new system.
