EPS-95 Pension Update: Senior pensioners covered under the Employees' Pension Scheme (EPS-95) no longer need to visit offices or banks to submit their annual Life Certificate. A new doorstep service offered through the postal department allows eligible pensioners to complete the process from the comfort of their homes.

For thousands of retired employees receiving benefits under the Employees' Pension Scheme (EPS-95), submitting the annual Life Certificate is an essential requirement to ensure uninterrupted pension payments. However, many elderly beneficiaries face difficulties traveling to government offices, banks, or service centers due to age-related challenges, health conditions, or mobility issues.

To address these concerns, pensioners can now take advantage of a convenient home-based service that simplifies the Life Certificate submission process. Through this initiative, postal department representatives can visit a pensioner's residence and assist in completing the required formalities, eliminating the need for physical travel.

Doorstep Life Certificate Service for EPS-95 Pensioners

The new facility is particularly beneficial for senior citizens who are unable to visit designated centers on their own. Pensioners enrolled under EPS-95 can request assistance by calling 033-22029000. Once the request is registered, a postal employee will visit the pensioner's home and help complete the Life Certificate submission process.

One of the most attractive aspects of this service is that it is being provided free of cost, ensuring that elderly pensioners can access the facility without any additional financial burden.

Why Is the Life Certificate Important?

The Life Certificate serves as proof that a pension beneficiary is alive and eligible to continue receiving pension payments. Under EPS-95 rules, every pensioner must submit this certificate once every year.

The verification process helps authorities maintain accurate records and prevents unauthorized pension disbursements. Failure to submit the certificate within the prescribed period may result in temporary suspension or delay of pension payments until the required verification is completed.

As a result, pensioners are strongly advised to ensure timely submission of their Life Certificate to avoid disruptions in their monthly pension income.

Digital Life Certificate Option Also Available

Apart from the doorstep service, pensioners can also choose to submit a Digital Life Certificate, popularly known as Jeevan Pramaan.

This digital system uses Aadhaar-based authentication and biometric verification to confirm a pensioner's identity and living status. Once generated, the digital certificate is securely stored online and can be downloaded using the Jeevan Pramaan ID whenever required.

The digital method has become increasingly popular among pensioners because it reduces paperwork and allows for faster processing.

Deadline for Submission

Pensioners should remember that a fresh Life Certificate or Jeevan Pramaan must be submitted within one year of the date on which the previous certificate was filed.

Missing the deadline can affect pension disbursement and may lead to payment interruptions. Therefore, beneficiaries should keep track of their submission dates and complete the process well before the due date.

Minimum Pension Under EPS-95

The Employees' Pension Scheme currently provides a minimum monthly pension of ₹1,000 for eligible pensioners. This amount is applicable to retired members as well as eligible widows, widowers, nominees, and dependent parents.

In addition, children covered under the scheme are entitled to a minimum monthly pension of ₹250, while orphan beneficiaries receive a minimum pension of ₹750 per month.

How Contributions Are Made to the Pension Fund

Under EPFO regulations, a portion of an employee's salary is allocated toward the pension fund each month. The contribution is calculated at 8.33% of the employee's Basic Salary and Dearness Allowance (DA).

However, the pension contribution amount is subject to a maximum monthly limit of ₹1,250.

A Welcome Move for Senior Citizens

The introduction of doorstep Life Certificate services is expected to bring significant convenience to elderly pensioners across the country. Many senior citizens who struggle with mobility issues, chronic illnesses, or transportation challenges can now complete an important pension-related requirement without leaving their homes.

By making the process more accessible and hassle-free, the initiative ensures that pensioners continue receiving their benefits on time while reducing the stress associated with annual verification procedures. For countless EPS-95 beneficiaries, a simple phone call is now all it takes to keep their pension payments running smoothly.
