The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation is preparing to introduce a major upgrade that could make PF withdrawals faster and hassle-free for millions of employees across India. The government has completed testing of a new UPI-based withdrawal system that will allow EPF subscribers to transfer their provident fund money directly into their bank accounts within minutes.

Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya confirmed that the new facility has successfully completed its testing phase. Once launched, employees will no longer have to wait several days for claim settlements, as eligible PF amounts can be withdrawn instantly using UPI authentication.

How the New EPFO UPI Withdrawal System Will Work

Under the upcoming system, EPFO members will be able to check the amount available for withdrawal directly through the platform. After selecting the amount, users can transfer the money instantly to their linked bank accounts using their UPI ID and UPI PIN.

The government is reportedly designing the system in a way that a certain portion of the PF balance remains protected under EPFO rules, while the eligible amount can be accessed immediately. Once credited, the money can be used for digital payments, ATM withdrawals, or bank transfers without delay.

This move is expected to significantly reduce paperwork, manual verification, and long processing timelines currently associated with PF withdrawals.

Up to 75% PF Withdrawal May Be Allowed

Although the final withdrawal limit has not yet been officially announced, earlier reports suggested that subscribers may be allowed to withdraw up to 75% of their eligible PF balance instantly through the UPI-based system.

The exact rules, eligibility criteria, and withdrawal conditions are expected to be announced formally once the service goes live.

EPFO Services May Soon Arrive on WhatsApp

The Labour Ministry is also planning to bring EPFO services to WhatsApp to improve accessibility for users across the country. Through this feature, subscribers may be able to start EPFO-related support simply by sending a “Hello” message to an official verified WhatsApp number.

Users are also expected to receive PF-related updates, notifications, and assistance directly through WhatsApp in multiple regional languages.

Aadhaar and DBT Issues to Be Resolved Faster

The proposed WhatsApp-based support system is expected to help users facing issues related to Aadhaar verification, direct benefit transfer (DBT) activation, and bank account linking.

Officials say services such as UIDAI face authentication support and Aadhaar-bank account linking assistance could also become available through the messaging platform. According to the ministry, this feature may be rolled out within the next month.

Current PF Withdrawal Process

At present, employees must submit withdrawal claims through the EPFO portal. Under the existing auto-settlement mechanism, eligible claims are usually processed within around three days without manual intervention.

The government recently increased the auto-settlement limit from ₹1 lakh to ₹5 lakh, making it easier for subscribers to access PF funds for medical emergencies, education, marriage, and housing-related expenses.

With the upcoming UPI-based system, the government aims to make provident fund access nearly instant, offering major convenience to salaried employees across the country.
