EPFO Launches WhatsApp-Based PF Balance Check Facility: Here’s How It Works
There is great news for EPFO account holders: the organization has introduced a new WhatsApp-based facility, allowing users to check their PF balance directly via WhatsApp.
The Employees' Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has rolled out a major convenience for its millions of account holders. Employees can now check their PF balance, transaction history, and passbook-related details through WhatsApp. This facility has been launched today, November 1, 2026. Furthermore, individuals with a balance of ₹1,000 or less in a long-dormant PF account will be able to recover their funds without needing to file a formal claim.
The EPFO celebrated its 74th Foundation Day in New Delhi on Sunday. These new features were unveiled during the event in the presence of the Union Minister for Labour and Employment, Mansukh Mandaviya.
What can you access via WhatsApp?
Through this new WhatsApp facility, employees can access various details regarding their PF accounts from the comfort of their homes—such as checking their PF balance, viewing the last five transactions, and accessing PF passbook information. Additionally, users can obtain information and guidance on the necessary procedures related to the 'Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana' (PMVBRY).
Funds to be Transferred from Dormant Accounts
Moreover, the EPFO has introduced a new provision for long-dormant PF accounts. For accounts with a balance of ₹1,000 or less, the funds can be automatically transferred to the account holder's bank account. Account holders do not need to file a separate claim to avail of this benefit. However, certain conditions apply, such as:
The account holder's Aadhaar must be verified.
The bank account details and identity must be confirmed. The bank account must be linked to the EPFO and connected to Aadhaar.
According to the EPFO, this facility is expected to benefit approximately 1 lakh accounts, which collectively hold a balance of about Rs 5 crore.
Benefits for Employees
Notably, the primary advantage of this facility is that employees will no longer need to make repeated visits to the EPFO office for minor queries or information. This will be facilitated through the EPFO’s official and verified WhatsApp service. Furthermore, account holders who have idle funds—money that could otherwise be put to use—will be able to access these amounts with ease.
