EPFO Higher Pension: Over 1.49 Lakh PPOs Issued; Check Whether Your Claim Is Approved or Still Pending
The EPFO has issued more than 1.49 lakh Pension Payment Orders (PPOs) for claims related to higher pension. Find out how to check the status via the UMANG app, the official portal, SMS, and missed calls.
There is an important update for EPFO members expecting a higher pension after retirement. Following the Supreme Court's order in November 2022, the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has issued over 1.49 lakh Pension Payment Orders (PPOs) for higher pension claims. This indicates that the processing of claims for those who opted for a higher pension based on higher contributions is moving forward.
In a written reply submitted to the Lok Sabha on August 10, Minister of State for Labour and Employment Shobha Karandlaje stated that a total of 15,24,365 claims for higher pension were received. Of these, 11,595 claims were pending as of August 5, 2026.
As of March 31, 2026, there were 85 lakh pensioners under the Employees' Pension Scheme (EPS). During this period, ₹15,819.28 crore was disbursed as pension.
How to check the status if you have applied for a higher pension?
If you have applied for a higher pension and wish to know the status of your claim, the EPFO offers several methods. You can obtain information via the UMANG app, the official EPFO portal, SMS, or a missed call.
How to check via the UMANG app:
- Download the UMANG app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
- Register using the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar and set a 4-digit M-PIN.
- After logging in, search for "EPFO" under "All Services."
- Navigate to "Employee Centric Services" or "Pensioner Services."
- Select "Track Claim," enter your 12-digit UAN, and click on "Get OTP" to receive the OTP.
- Enter the OTP received on your registered mobile number and click Login/Submit.
- Details regarding the PPO status, Tracking ID, and processing status will appear on the screen.
How to check pension status via the EPFO portal?
Pension details can also be checked by visiting the EPFO Member Passbook & Pensioner Portal.
- First, visit unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in/memberinterface.
- Locate your 12-digit PPO number using the "Know Your PPO No." option with your bank account details or Member ID.
- Next, go to "Online Services" and select "Know Your Pension Status."
- You can then view details regarding the pension credit date and amount on the new portal.
Can updates be received via SMS or missed call?
Yes, information regarding EPFO claims can also be obtained by sending an SMS from your registered mobile number. To do this, send an SMS to 7738299899 in the following format:
