EPFO: Have you forgotten the details of an old EPF account? EPFO's new service history feature will help..
Professionals in the private sector frequently switch jobs during their careers; sometimes, they join a new company after just a few months. Each job change alters their service history, requiring them to transfer their EPF account to the new employer. Employees often forget to initiate this transfer, resulting in the opening of a new EPF account with the new employer. EPFO 2.01 has introduced a new feature that provides consolidated information regarding an employee's provident fund records.
**Access to Complete Service History in One Place**
The new facility within EPFO 2.01 is known as the 'Service History' feature. Through this feature, employees can view their service history and provident fund records, accessing all relevant information in a single location. However, this requires the PF account to be linked to the Universal Account Number (UAN). Consequently, users can view their employment history and records dating back to 2014, the year the UAN system was launched.
**All EPF Accounts Linked to the UAN Will Be Included**
The UAN is a unique 12-digit ID allotted by the EPFO to every member. While changing jobs results in a change of employer—and the initiation of a new EPF account with the new employer—the UAN remains constant. This UAN stays linked to the EPF account across different employers. Furthermore, the UAN is essential for accessing the EPFO's online services.
**Easier Claim Filing for Subscribers**
The EPFO's new service history feature assists members (employees) in retrieving information about their past employers, service periods, and provident fund records throughout their careers. This makes it easier for members to file claims or obtain information regarding their prospective pension. Previously, the EPFO introduced a service eliminating the need for employees to manually transfer their EPF accounts to a new employer upon changing jobs; the account is transferred automatically.
This facility is available on the EPFO member portal.
The EPFO's new 'Service History' feature provides employees with details regarding their current employer as well as all previous employers. It includes information such as the dates of joining and leaving employment with each employer. Employees can also view their EPF and EPS membership history. To use this feature, you need to log in to the EPFO's Unified Member Portal.
