EPFO E-PRAAPTI Portal: 'E-Praapti' portal to launch by the end of August; easily withdraw stuck funds from dormant PF accounts..
EPFO Inoperative PF Account Recovery: There is welcome news for the crores of Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) subscribers whose funds are stuck in old or dormant PF accounts. The EPFO is set to launch a new digital portal named 'E-PRAAPTI' soon.
Through this portal, you will be able to easily locate your decades-old, non-UAN, or inoperative PF accounts, link them to your current Universal Account Number (UAN), and withdraw the stuck funds. Reports indicate that the EPFO is working on back-end software upgrades to enhance the system's security, with a nationwide launch expected by the end of August 2026.
Over ₹9,330 Crore in PF Funds Stuck Nationwide
According to EPFO regulations, if no new contributions are deposited into a PF account for three consecutive years (36 months), the account is classified as 'inoperative' (dormant). Currently, there are over 30.91 lakh inoperative PF accounts across the country, holding a substantial unclaimed sum of approximately ₹9,330 crore. Many employees have forgotten their old Member IDs (MIDs) or failed to link them to their current UANs after changing jobs.
What is the E-PRAAPTI Portal?
'E-PRAAPTI' (EPF Aadhaar-Based Access Portal for Tracking Inoperative Accounts) is a dedicated digital platform. It will significantly simplify the processes of identifying, tracking, linking to UAN, and reactivating old PF accounts.
Aadhaar-based verification will drastically reduce the need for manual verification, sparing employees from having to make repeated visits to former employers or EPFO offices.
How Will the New E-PRAAPTI Portal Work?
This portal will be particularly beneficial for members who hold an old Member ID (MID) from the period prior to the introduction of the UAN system in 2014:
Secure Aadhaar-based Login: Subscribers can log in using Aadhaar-based authentication without the need to submit voluminous documentation at the outset.
Online Application: After logging in, members must submit an online form providing details of their old PF account.
Automatic Account Merger or Withdrawal: If the old MID found in the system matches the current UAN, the old PF funds will automatically merge into the new account, or the withdrawal process will be initiated.
New UAN Generation Facility: If a member possesses an old MID but lacks a UAN, the portal will instantly generate a new UAN for future transactions.
Verification for Cases Without MID: If a member has forgotten their old MID, the application will be forwarded to the relevant EPFO Regional Office, where the claim will be processed following identity verification.
Who will benefit in the first phase?
According to the EPFO, the portal will initially operate based on Member IDs, providing immediate benefits to the lakhs of employees who possess the Member ID of their old PF account. In subsequent phases, options will be added for members who have completely forgotten their old IDs or details.
