In a major relief for millions of pensioners, the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has introduced a convenient and free facility to submit Digital Life Certificates (DLC) right from home. The move, in collaboration with the India Post Payments Bank (IPPB), aims to simplify the process for senior citizens who often face difficulties visiting banks or EPFO offices.

A Major Step Toward Digital Convenience

Under the Employees’ Pension Scheme 1995 (EPS-95), all pensioners are required to submit their life certificate annually to continue receiving pension benefits. Until now, many had to visit EPFO offices or banks in person for verification.

However, with the new initiative, pensioners can now generate and submit their Digital Life Certificate (Jeevan Pramaan) from the comfort of their homes. India Post Payments Bank’s doorstep service makes this process effortless, especially for elderly citizens who find it hard to travel.

How the Doorstep Service Works

This doorstep DLC service was first introduced by India Post Payments Bank in 2020. Over time, it has been expanded and made more accessible to reach a larger number of pensioners.

Using Aadhaar-based biometric verification, the postman or Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) visits the pensioner’s home to complete the authentication process. Pensioners simply need to provide their Aadhaar number and pension details. Within minutes, their Digital Life Certificate is generated and linked to the government’s Jeevan Pramaan portal.

The service uses facial recognition or fingerprint authentication to verify identity, ensuring accuracy and security.

Service is Completely Free for Pensioners

The best part of this initiative is that EPFO will bear all costs of issuing the digital life certificate. This means pensioners don’t have to pay any service fee — the facility is completely free of charge, regardless of whether the pensioner is an IPPB customer or not.

This decision comes as part of EPFO’s larger effort to make pension-related services simpler, more transparent, and senior-friendly.

How to Avail the Facility

Here’s how pensioners can request the doorstep service:

  1. Contact your local postman or Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) to schedule a visit.

  2. Alternatively, visit the nearest post office to place a service request.

  3. Pensioners can also book the service online via:

Once the request is made, the post office representative visits the pensioner’s home to complete the process.

Documents Required

To generate the Digital Life Certificate (Jeevan Pramaan), pensioners will need the following:

  • Mobile number linked with Aadhaar

  • Pension account number

  • PPO number (Pension Payment Order)

  • Type of pension and department name

If a pensioner has previously submitted a DLC, their details will automatically appear in the system for verification.

  1. Provide Aadhaar number and pension-related details.

  2. Verify identity via OTP, fingerprint, or face authentication.

  3. Once verified, the Digital Life Certificate is generated instantly.

  4. Pensioners receive an SMS confirmation and can view the certificate on jeevanpramaan.gov.in the next day.
