EPFO Begins Crediting 8.25% Interest for FY 2024-25 — Check When and How Your Account Will Be Updated

Good news for crores of salaried employees! The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has started crediting 8.25% annual interest for the financial year 2024–25 to EPF accounts. According to official updates, most EPF accounts have already been credited, and the remaining will be updated by the end of this week.

Here’s everything you need to know—whether your account has received the interest, how to check the balance, and by when the full update will be complete.

📊 How Many EPF Accounts Have Been Credited So Far?

Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya confirmed that interest crediting is progressing at record speed this year. As of now:

  • Out of 33.56 crore EPF accounts managed under 13.88 lakh organizations,

  • A whopping 32.39 crore accounts (96.51%) have already been updated with interest.

  • Additionally, 99.9% of establishments’ annual accounts have been finalized.

The minister assured that the remaining 3.49% of accounts will be updated by the end of this week, offering relief to those still waiting.

What’s remarkable this year is the early start of the interest crediting process. Unlike last year—when interest was credited between August and December—this year’s updates began as early as June 2025.

💰 What is the Interest Rate for FY 2024–25?

The EPFO has announced an interest rate of 8.25% for the financial year 2024–25, maintaining the trend of competitive returns compared to other fixed-income instruments. The interest is calculated monthly on your EPF balance, but it is credited annually, typically around mid-year.

If you’ve made a withdrawal mid-year, you will still receive interest up to the last month before the withdrawal.

🔍 How to Check Your EPF Balance and Interest Credit

You can verify if the 8.25% interest has been added to your account using any of the following methods—provided your UAN (Universal Account Number) is active and linked:

1. Via EPFO Website:

  • Visit: https://www.epfindia.gov.in

  • Navigate to “Our Services” > “For Employees”

  • Click on “Member Passbook” under the “Services” section

  • Enter your UAN and password

  • Choose the correct Member ID (if you’ve worked at multiple organizations)

  • View the passbook to see credited interest and updated balance

2. Via SMS:

  • Send EPFOHO UAN to 7738299899 from your registered mobile number

  • You’ll receive your EPF balance and last contribution details via SMS

3. Via Missed Call:

  • Give a missed call to 9966044425 from your registered mobile

  • You'll receive an SMS with your balance if your UAN is linked with Aadhaar and bank details

⏰ When Will All Accounts Be Updated?

EPFO has assured that all remaining accounts will be updated by the end of this week (i.e., by mid-July 2025). So, if your account hasn’t been updated yet, there's no cause for concern—just a matter of time.

📝 What Should You Do If Your Interest Is Not Reflected?

  • Ensure your UAN is activated and KYC is completed (Aadhaar, PAN, and bank account linked).

  • Check again via the passbook or SMS after a few days.

  • If it’s still not updated post the week’s end, you can raise a grievance on the EPFO grievance portal: https://epfigms.gov.in

✅ Why This Update Matters

The EPF scheme is a crucial retirement savings tool for India’s salaried class. Timely interest crediting not only builds trust in the system but also ensures that employee savings grow efficiently and transparently. With returns often better than fixed deposits and tax exemptions under Section 80C, EPF remains one of the most attractive long-term savings instruments.
