EPFO: After changing jobs, you must do this work related to UAN number..

If you have not linked the old UAN number with your new employer after changing jobs or have not made the necessary updates, then you can get into big trouble. The Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has repeatedly warned that such employees may face big problems in EPF claim, transfer or withdrawal.

What is UAN and its need?

UAN (Universal Account Number) is a unique 12-digit number that every PF member gets. This number remains the same throughout your career, and all your PF accounts are linked to it. It is very important that your UAN is active and linked to Aadhaar to avail all the digital and online services of EPFO.

What is necessary after changing jobs?

Do not generate a new UAN.

Only one UAN is valid for every employee. When changing jobs, share only your old UAN with the new employer. If a new UAN is created by mistake, then merge both the old and new accounts through the 'One Member One PF Account' facility.

UAN and Aadhaar linking

For PF transfer, claim, or any kind of facility, your UAN should be linked to Aadhaar. If neither is linked, then your PF transfer and claim may get stuck.

Update KYC

After joining a new employer, go to the e-service portal and keep your KYC (eg, Aadhaar, PAN, bank details) updated. This makes PF transfer and other services easier.

File e-Nomination

EPFO has recently issued a strict warning that if there is no e-Nomination in your account, then PF claim filing will be blocked. Do update e-Nomination by logging in to the EPFO portal.

EPFO's latest warning

EPFO has recently issued a new warning that if UAN, KYC, or e-Nomination is not updated, then there may be a problem in the PF claim filing process. A limit has also been set for repeated logins (eg, 5 times) after which the facility to claim will be temporarily stopped.

What can be the loss?

PF transfer may get stuck; you will not be able to claim the money. You will not get the benefit of EDLI (Life Insurance). It will be difficult to withdraw funds in retirement or in an emergency. If there is a wrong UAN / both UANs, then there will be problems in both pension and funds in the future. If there is no e-Nomination, the family may face problems in claiming.
