EPFO 3.0 Major Update: Now withdraw PF money instantly via UPI and ATM! Know about these 5 major changes, including auto-settlement..
EPFO 3.0 Digital Reforms: There is major news for the crores of salaried members of the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO). The government is launching EPFO 3.0 as part of an upgrade to its digital infrastructure. Once this new system is implemented, the lengthy PF claim settlement process will be eliminated, and members will be able to withdraw funds directly via UPI or UPI-enabled ATMs without any paperwork.
Recently, the central government approved an interest rate of 8.25% on EPF and VPF for the financial year 2026 (FY26). Now, through EPFO 3.0, members are being granted quick and easy access to their funds. Let us explore how this new system will simplify the lives of PF subscribers.
What is EPFO 3.0, and why was this change made?
The primary objective of EPFO 3.0 is to reduce the time taken for PF claim settlements and to make services fully digital. According to the Ministry of Labour and Employment, the EPFO successfully migrated its entire member database to the Centralised IT-Enabled System (CITES) platform in July. This has replaced the old system with a unified national database. Consequently, subscribers will now be able to instantly transfer funds to their linked bank accounts via UPI.
5 Major Benefits of EPFO 3.0 for Subscribers
1. PF Withdrawal of up to 75% via UPI and ATM
Subject to terms and conditions, subscribers will be able to withdraw between 50% and 75% of their EPF balance using UPI or UPI-enabled ATMs. Members will be able to view the eligible balance transferable to their bank accounts and securely transfer funds using their UPI PIN. Once transferred, the money can be spent digitally or withdrawn as cash from an ATM.
2. Auto-Settlement Limit Raised to ₹5 Lakh
The EPFO has increased the auto-settlement limit from ₹1 lakh to ₹5 lakh. This ensures that claims made by subscribers for needs such as medical treatment, children's education, weddings, or purchasing/building a home are auto-processed and credited to their accounts within just three days.
3. Face Authentication on the UMANG App
Members can now generate or activate their UAN using Face Authentication Technology (FAT) on the UMANG app. Additionally, they can access facilities like instant passbook viewing, correcting incorrect details, and submitting online claims from the comfort of their homes.
4. Relief from Claim Rejections
Under the old system, members were often unaware of the exact amount they were eligible to withdraw, leading to claim rejections. Now, with EPFO 3.0, the eligible withdrawal amount based on specific circumstances will be displayed to subscribers on the screen beforehand.
5. Digital Responses to Online Grievances
If the PF office requires additional information during claim processing, members will now be able to respond digitally online. Previously, there was no facility available to submit clarifications online.
